Why is it important?
According to our HR Trends 2025 Report, the role of the HR leader is undergoing a seismic shift: from reacting to organisational change to actively leading it. HR leaders and professionals are being asked to manage rapid transformation while still maintaining empathy, balance, and performance.
At the same time, HR teams are being stretched across new and increasingly complex demands—at the cold face of employee well-being, safety and inclusion and navigating the impact of major external forces like geopolitical instability, economic pressure and the acceleration of AI and workplace technology.
Yet amidst all this, there’s one critical question being overlooked: What is the impact on HR?
“No one outside of HR understands what we do or the pressure we’re under.” This isn’t just a passing remark—it’s a reality. And one that needs to be addressed.
Surveys continue to expose the growing pressure placed on HR professionals. Gartner reports that 71% of HR leaders say burnout among their teams is now a greater challenge than it was before the pandemic. A People Management survey found that 44% of HR professionals have experienced stress or mental illness as a direct result of their work, while 98% report feeling burnout, often tied to feelings of isolation and lack of support (Workvivo, 2023).
