Location:  Southampton

The role of Head of People (Experience) is a senior leadership role reporting to the Group People Director, responsible for leading a colleague focussed service delivery and business partnering team that delivers a positive colleague experience through the employment lifecycle and promotes our employer brand.

Overall, the purpose of the role is to support the people strategy by building and delivering people management capability with the aim of driving business outcomes and developing a world-class colleague experience.  

The incumbent, a long serving and valued colleague is to take the role in leading a business-critical project, the implementation of a fully integrated HR & Payroll system and will be a key stakeholder alongside the newly appointed Head of Learning & Development.  The new Head of People will also play a key role in the implementation of a performance management framework and reward job level infrastructure.



  • Translate people strategy to build upon and develop our people experience in line with company Vision
  • Embed a true business partnering model that focusses on driving the people plan and develops manager capability, promoting self-led learning culture
  • Foster a culture of service excellence, act as a role model for Hendy values and coach the team to develop positive outcomes
  • Act as custodian of reward level framework ensuring pay and benefit plans are in line with pay policy
  • Lead, influence and operationalise performance management approach, supporting the development of a culture that measures performance not just on the ‘what’ but the ‘how’ (behaviours)
  • Ensure all people policies are fit for purpose and ensure updates are in line with statutory and legal precedent
  • Use insights from business partnering to inform talent and development discussions/decisions
  • Management of colleague benefits contracts / key contact with broker (eg. private health insurance)
  • Regular reporting of key metrics supported by meaningful observations, commentary and action plan
  • Promote learning and self-led learning culture
  • Lead People Advisor and Business Partnering team to deliver a world class solutions and development outcomes
  • Coach & develop capability within People team
