Our client has quadrupled in size over the past decade. With a network of 50+ offices and further growth across Asia, the Americas and Africa. Their key focus is also to become the ‘go to’ firm in emerging markets and attracting and developing the best people.

The Global HR team are based in offices around the world and are made up of over 80 people. The International HR team are based in London and work alongside the specialist functions, as well as with colleagues in international offices, to deliver a business partnering service to the firm’s European, Latin American offices and ongoing global projects. They also provide specialist support on international assignments and internal UK immigration processes.

The Role

The purpose of the International HR Business Partner role is to work with and influence key stakeholders and partners to advance business performance by identifying areas for improvement and facilitating commercially focussed change initiatives. This International HR Business Partner role will take responsibility for HR operations as well as coordinating various firm wide projects and initiatives across the global regions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational support to the relevant international offices and fee-earning teams on the entire employee lifecycle to include resourcing and on-boarding, employee development, commercially driven change initiatives and globally focussed projects.

Business Partnering

  • Work with the International Head of HR team to develop the HR function across European and Latin America to ensure that the team is meeting the strategic objectives of the firm.
  • Position HR as a strategic business partner within client groups and contribute to business planning and
  • strategic discussions by providing commercial advice and support on all HR Operational issues.
  • Develop and sustain strong business relationships with client groups to become a trusted advisor.
  • Coach and support Partners, Managers and Team Leaders in their development of their people management skills.
  • Work with the wider business to ensure initiatives and solutions have full support ahead of implementation. Influencing and supporting change management across the practice.
  • Propose new ideas that may lead to better strategic decisions.
  • Work with the groups to ensure the structure of the practice areas is appropriate to meet the strategic aims of the various teams.
  • Advising Partners and employees on relevant policies and procedures.
  • Assisting with inter-office secondments and relevant immigration / visa issues.
  • Work with L&D colleagues to ensure that fee earners have the right skills, experience and knowledge to manage people effectively and to help and support them when gaps are identified. Facilitate and deliver L&D programmes as and when required.

Career Development Review Process

  • Plan and implement the Career Development Review annually for relevant offices ensuring that the timetable is updated, agreed and adhered to.
  • Coach client groups in the delivery of effective feedback and constructive performance management based discussions.
  • Identify training needs and liaise with the Learning and Development team to identify and deliver targeted and effective training.

Salary Review

  • Assist the International Head of HR with the fee earner and business services annual salary review process working as part of a project team with relevant international HR colleagues.
  • Keep up to date on market intelligence on salaries and remuneration for the fee earning groups across the relevant offices and feed that back into the salary review process.
  • Run and implement a commercial salary review process which targets market 'hot spots' and high performers.


  • Project manage the Global Associate Programme and the European Network Programme to ensure effective communication with chosen participants and sponsoring Partners
  • Work with the international working group to develop the firm's Global Mobility Programme
  • Working closely with the International Head of HR on various global projects within the firm

  • Experience in leadership and mentoring a team of HR professionals.

  • Awareness of own development needs.

Experience and Skills Required

  • Experience in a global professional services environment working across multiple territories.
  • HR Professional with previous experience of building effective relationships with senior stakeholders particularly when working remotely 
  • Preferably professional services or legal experience.
  • Language skills e.g French or Spanish would be advantageous but not a prerequisite.
  • Graduate or equivalent and GCIPD qualified would be helpful but not essential.
  • Commercially astute and a good understanding of the practical application of HR.
  • Highly proactive and strategic in approach.
  • Strong influencing skills and able to build credibility quickly.
  • Must be flexible in adapting to a dynamic, fast paced environment with a positive attitude and results driven.
  • Experience in leadership and mentoring a team of HR professionals.
