Job Description

My client is a top international law firm who are currently growing their Birmingham office. They are looking to build a legal learning team there who can deliver legal learning for all UK lawyers, with a particular focus on our trainees and junior lawyers; tracking and reviewing the SRA development plans that UK lawyers complete as part of their SRA requirements; and for aligning these plans with other firm initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Liaising with presenters and external providers to schedule courses
  • Allocating trainees to cohort sessions, while minimising the pressure on each practice area wherever possible
  • Supervising all team and course processes and assisting with on-going process improvements
  • Delegating tasks to the Legal Learning Administrators and supervising resourcing and performance
  • Providing training and guidance to the Legal Learning Administrators in relation to compliance and course organisation 
  • Ensuring that all trainees are offered the training courses necessary to complete the SRA-mandatory PSC programme in time to meet SRA deadlines
  • Assisting the PAs, Business Development Events team and legal staff with SRA and Law Society of Ireland CPD compliance queries and providing first point of contact support to the firm for SRA and LSI CPD course compliance queries
  • Assisting with the provision of SRA and LSI CPD compliance materials
  • Entering training and event information on the database management system when required
  • Creating and maintaining centralised compliance files
  • Supervising and assisting the Legal Learning Administrators in maintaining and updating training records held on the department's training database
  • Providing training and support to all users of the database management system 
  • Acting as the first point of contact for all client and internal training compliance queries
  • Project managing the annual SRA CPD learning plan rollout
  • Reviewing SRA learning plans and supporting lawyers in their completion 
  • Monitoring LSI CPD compliance
  • Providing ad hoc general support to the Legal Learning team

Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a professional services environment
  • Experience working with compliance regulations
  • A comprehensive knowledge of standard best practices for providing a learning and development service within a law firm including organizing events and training 
  • A willingness to use initiative and  demonstrates a proactive attitude 
  • Reliably and consistently delivers on agreed objectives and commitments
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a global team  
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and clients and comfortable working with a variety of stakeholders 
  • Excellent project management skills and self-motivation
  • High attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions and processes consistently
  • Commitment to high levels of client service both within the function and across the firm
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to build relationships of professional trust and courtesy and to interact with internal clients at all levels and with external contacts
  • A good knowledge of the MS Office suite of applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and excellent IT skills
  • Knowledge of Dovetail
